Unit 14 M1 - Analyse the structure and content of a programme broadcast by a chosen radio station

 1. The name of the programme is Fairy Meadow. It was released on BBC sounds on the 11th January 2022. The audience could be people who are into crime or mystery programmes. A lot of people have experienced the same trauma as the Grimmer family, so by watching this it can open the audiences eyes to the real world. The audience can access this programme by creating an account or signing in to BBC sounds.

2. There is 8 episodes with each episode being around 20-30 minutes long. Over 4 weeks 2 episodes get released. Programmes do this to keep the audience waiting and intrigued for the next. Jon Kay is heard narrating what happened in which this case is a little girl who was taken from the beach changing rooms. He meets with different people who knew Cheryl including family members. This all takes place in the first episode which means they have a lot going on in the other episodes too.

3.The purpose for this programme could be to educate. This means by telling the audience the story, they can learn and not make the same mistake they did. Also it can be for information as they talk to different family members of the girl who went missing. They can give the audience their perspective on what happened and what they saw. From 17:10 on episode 1, Jon Kay visits Cheryl Grimmer's eldest brother Ricki and they speak about what happened. Also Ricki's wife speaks about how their life is going on now and how they met. (19:28).

4.

The music at the start is dark to match what's going on as its a sad and touchy subject. For the dialogue Jon meets the brother of Cheryl and the brothers wife. They speak about how life is for them now and how they cope. Also they were witnesses on the beach that Jon spoke to. This is to hear their side of the story and what they witnessed, this will then make the audience feel more intrigued. As you can see by the dialogue, a lot of the speakers are family members including the brother, his wife and the presenters son. This tells us that this programme is all about family and in a way warns families to not make the same mistake the Grimmer's did.

5. Jon visits the older brother and wife, the sounds we can instantly hear is the knock on the door and when he is greeted by his dog. At 22:52 you can hear Ricki opening a door/gate to show Jon where he last saw Cheryl. You can also hear walking towards it. This shows how real this all is and makes the audience question everything which then will make them feel more interested. The little details like the breeze and wind is all there too. While we can hear dialogue you can hear a soft music playing in the back to settle the tone.

6. Jon Kay communicates with the audience by starting of telling his son and audience about a similar situation he experienced just like the fairy meadow case. He then goes on to say that's why he's 'obsessed' with the fairy meadow case. Another reason why he's obsessed with it because the Grimmer family are from Bristol just like him which makes him want to find out more. He said he got a news alert on his phone and when he saw the word Bristol he instantly wanted to work on the case. While sitting on an Airplane he tells the audience where he's heading, "Im heading to Sydney and then to Wollongong". This shows that he's interacting with the audience and keeping them up to date on what he's doing next.
